Climate
This place experiences moderate climatic conditions. Summers experiences warm climate with temperature ranging from 24 - 28°C. In not so long winters, temperature is around the 19°C. Monsoon is variable, but it generally rains from June to September. The best time to visit Bandipur is between the months of April and October.

The Park
Located in Karnataka’s Chamarajanagar district the Bandhipur National Park is positioned at the point where the Deccan Plateau rises to meet up the furrowed folds of the Western Ghat Mountains. An exclusive geographical feature, moderate climate and the presence of a various variety of floras make Bandipur an absolute paradise for wildlife. This place was established in 1973, one year after which it became one of India's first Tiger Reserves and was given the status of a National Park. It forms Karnataka's best wildlife attraction.

Attractions in the Park

Flora : The Park comprises of dry deciduous jungles and tropical mixed deciduous forests. The eastern end of the park has a dense cover of bushes and open grassy belts. This vast variety of flora makes Bandipur an ideal home for a number of animal species.

Fauna : Animals make their habitat according to the available flora and therefore they are scattered over the park accordingly. Bandipur National park is a home to Bonner Macaque, Nilgiri Langur, Dhole, Smooth-coated Otter, Common Palm Civet, Stripe-necked Mongoose, Jungle Cat, Tiger, Wild Boar, Chital, Gaur, Indian Palm Squirrel, Golden Jackal, Sloth Bear, Striped Hyaena, Rusty-spotted Cat, Nilgiri Tahr Indian Porcupine, Hanuman Langur, Bengal Fox, Elephant, Antelope, Indian Pangolin and Hispid Hare.

Avifauna : Ospreys, Malabar Pied Hornbills, Serpent Eagles, Shaheen Falcons, Gray Headed Firhings, Crested Hawk Eagles, Pea Fowl, Honey Buzzards, King Vultures, Hill Mynas, Malabar Trogon, Black Woodpeckers, Gray Partridges, Indian Pittas, Cormorants, Paradise Flycatchers, Teals, Ducks, Herons, Waders, Red Spur Fowl, Gray Jungle Fowl, Quails, Ibis, Cuckoo, Plover, Blue Bearded Bee-Eaters, Lesser Coucals, Scarlet Minivets, Parakeets, Fairy Blue Birds, Malabar Whistling Thrushes, Scimitar Babblers, Green Imperial Pigeons, Owls, and Nightjars and other species of birds are found here in abundance.

Mysore Maharaja Palace : The national park holds in its vicinity the presence of Mysore Maharaja Palace. The likes of Great Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan and other legacies ruled in Mysore.

A number of Hindu temples and British monuments are there in Mysore, which constitute the major attraction of the place. This land is also famous for the celebrations of Dussehra across the world.

How To Reach

By Air : 220 kms away from the Bandhipur national park is the nearest national airport where flights from all major national destinations land.

By Rail : Udhagamandalam narrow gauge railway station and Mysore broad gauge railway station are the nearest to the park. It is more convenient to reach Bandhipur National park through railways.

By Road : The Mysore-Ooty highway is the highway that reaches this national park. The conditions of the roads are fine and the park is easily accessible.
