The Park
The majestic Corbett National Park is situated in Uttaranchal at the foothills of the Himalayas. It covers an area of 1,200 Sq km and has a wide range of flora and fauna. Acknowledged in 1936 as Hailey National Park, Corbett National Park is India's first wildlife sanctuary and also the first national park to come under Project Tiger. The British used to hunt here and therefore the park was named after Jim Corbett, the legendary hunter turned author and photographer. He played a fundamental role in establishing the park and assisting in its preservation efforts.
Attractions in the Park
Flora
Evergreen forests constitute the major part of the park. The main trees found here are the Sal trees, which grow in the lower reaches, whereas in the higher reaches Chir, Bakli, Anauri and many bamboo species are there. The varied topography ranges from hilly and riverside areas, temporary marshy depressions to ravines and plateaus.
Fauna
Referred as a heaven for tigers because of the tiger conservation efforts launched here that have been greatly lauded. Animals such as Wild Boar and Deer, which constitute the major prey for Tigers, are also found here in large numbers. The hilly areas are inhabited by the leopards. The nocturnal cats found here are Leopard Cat, Fishing Cat, and Jungle Cat. Lower regions are inhabited by Sloth Bear, whereas upper regions are inhabited by Himalayan Black Bear. Indian Gray Mongoose, Himalayan Palm Civet, Common Otter, Porcupine, and Black aped Hare are some other species of animals found here. Rhesus Monkeys and Langur are also seen everywhere. Numerous Crocodiles are one of the major attractions.
Avifauna :
As many as 600 species of birds have been recorded in Corbett so far. The main species are Herons, Cormorants, Darters, Munias, Weaver birds, Serpent eagles, Fishing eagles, Spotted Eagles, Mynas, Vultures, Jungle Fowl, Thrushes, Barbets, Peahens, Peacocks, Kingfishers, Moorhens, Geese, Sandpipers, Ducks, Cuckoos, Woodpeckers, Drogues, Wagtails, Doves, Plovers, Owls, Parakeets, Kalij Pheasants, Grebes, Snipes, Grey Lags, Harriers, Hornbills, Minivets, Stone Curlews and some other endangered species.

Ramnagar
Located in the Terai region, Ramnagar is a busy market town. Also the organizational centre for Corbett National Park, Ramnagar is a fishing base camp and many angling expeditions are held here.
Lohachaur
Located 15 kms from Corbett National Park, Lohachaur is situated along the River Kosi and is also a famous place for angling. In the river waters of this place, Mahseer fish is found.
How To Reach
By Air : At a distance of 50 kms from Corbett Park, Phoolbagh, Pantnagar is the nearest airport for reaching this destination.
By Rail : RamNagar station is the nearest railway station to this place.
By Road : Dhikala is the main access. The park is 300 kms from Delhi, 51 kms from Ramnagar and 145 kms from Lucknow. A semi deluxe Bus service is run by Delhi Transport Corporation to the place starting from Delhi.
