Location
Located in the northern part, the western end of the Gangetic plain, which is drained by River Yamuna in India. Delhi is the third largest city of India. Delhi is situated 2095 kms from Chennai, 1461 kms from Calcutta , 1407 kms from Mumbai .

The City
Delhi or National Capital Territory of Delhi is India's capital, also referred as NCR includes New Delhi, Old Delhi, and Delhi Cantt, it incorporates satellite cities of Faridabad, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, and Noida Delhi has always been an attraction for travelers and tourists. A remarkable feature of the city is the exposure of greenery all over. Delhi is popular among visitors looking for items of handicrafts from all over the country. Delhi offers several interesting places and attractions for the visitor, making it difficult to decide where to begin. The important places in Old Delhi include the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Delhi Gate, Chandni Chowk, Raj Ghat and Shanti Vana, the last two constructed after India’s Independence in 1947.

New Delhi, a fresh city planned by Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker, offers a spacious, open city housing many government buildings and embassies as well as historical monuments. Remarkable attraction of New Delhi includes the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Humayun’s Tomb, Purana Quila, Tughlaqabad, India Gate, Laxminarayan Temple, Qutab Minar, and Bahai Temple.

Tourist Attractions in Delhi

India Gate : India Gate was built in the remembrance of Indian soldiers who gave their lives during Ist World's War. India Gate is also an entertainment area and is a famous picnic spot. The names of the soldiers are written all along 42 m high walls of India Gate. Lutyens built it to pay a tribute to soldiers who sacrificed their lives.

Parliament House : Parliament House holds a well-known place in the democratic country like India. All the major decisions are taken in Parliament House and entry to this area is restricted. Parliament House is a spectacular piece of architecture, which is highly admirable and holds prestige in India. One can like the beauty of this marvelous piece of building from outside.

Rashtrapati Bhawan (President's House) : This inspiring building standing at a height flows down to India Gate. The stretch, is called the Rajpath, is the place for the annual Republic Day parade. President of the India’s official residence is Rashtrapati Bhawan. At the time of Britishers, Rashtrapati Bhawan was the official residence of Viceroy. This 340-roomed monument has a strong character overlooking Rajpath and India Gate.

Qutub Minar : Qutub-ud-din Aibek of the Slave Dynasty built the Qutab Minar, located at Mehrauli, in South Delhi. A fluted red sandstone tower, contraction up to a height of 72.5 m has complex carvings and verses from the holy Quran all over. It is a masterpiece of Mughal architecture, which has a number of storey having beautiful carvings. The structure of the wall is made in such way to make the minar stronger. The Qutab Minar, first formation of Muslim rule in India, marks the beginning of the new Indo-Islamic architectural style.

Jama Masjid : It was built in the year 1656 AD with the help of 5,000 craftsmen. Jama Masjid is the largest superb mosque in India. The mosque has capacity to provide accommodation of 25,000 devotees. Devotees clutter it, as it is the main mosque built by Shahjahan. It has three gateways, four towers, and two minarets. Thousands of devotees offer prayers every day in Jama Masjid. It is the most prominent tourist attractions in Delhi. Red Fort or Lal Qila stands towards the east of the mosque.

Bahai Temple : The Bahai Temple, also known as Lotus temple because of its shape, is located in South Delhi. The structure of Bahai temple or Lotus Temple is made-up of nine petals. An eye-catching structure worth exploring the temple is built by the Bahai community and religious people are liberal to visit the temple to pray or to meditate.

Other Places of Interest

Surajkund : Situated 11 km from Qutab Minar on the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Surajkund has a persistent lake surrounded by rock-cut steps. The temple along with its captivating surroundings won the heart of a Tomar chieftain Surajpal, belonging to a clan of sun worshippers. Now days, celebration of centuries of crafts traditions at the annual Surajkund Crafts Mela is performed. Artisans from all over India assemble during the first fortnight of February every year to participate in the Surajkund Crafts Mela.

Badhkal Lake : Situated in the Faridabad district of Haryana, the beautiful Badhkal Lake, a natural pool enclosed amidst vast lawns and blossoming greenery. This is a perfect picnic spot, this place offers boating facilities. Although the lake is not so dynamic in summer, the Mid-Monsoon season is the best time to visit. Here, in Badhkal Lake, one can grab the facility for boating and also fishing.

How to reach Delhi

By Air : Being a capital of India, Delhi airport has all the recent facilities and connects all the major and minor destinations of India. All flights operate regularly from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.

By Rail : There are three major Railway stations in Delhi- New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station, and Hazarat Nizamuddin Railway station connecting all major and minor destinations.

By Road : Delhi bus terminals are located at Anand Vihar, Sarai Kale Khan, and Kashmiri Gate.
