Climate
This area experiences tropical climate without much of rainfall. In summers, temperature reaches up to 47° Celsius, whereas during winters, mercury drops to a minimum of 2° Celsius.
The ideal time for visiting Ranthambore is October to June when the park remains open to public.

The Park
This popular park is situated in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district, covering an area of 392 sq. km. The park is located where the Aravali Hill ranges and the Vindhyan plateau meet. It used to be the popular hunting ground of the Rulers of Jaipur. Today, being one of the best examples of efforts for the conservation of tigers, Ranthambore supports a large number of Tigers. It comes under the list of some of the best national parks for spotting Tigers. The main source of water is formed by the two rivers – Chambal and Banas, which surround the park from south and north, respectively.

Attractions in the Parkk

Flora : Dry deciduous vegetation with Dhok tree is the most abundant vegetation here. Apart from Dhok, Mango, Banyan, Pipal, Ber, Jamun, Chila, Kadam, Khajur, Karel, Khair, Kakera,Khejda, Mohua and Neem trees are also present in large numbers. With impenetrable forests in some parts, open bush lands constitute the other parts. Gigantic rock formations, perennial lakes, steep scarps and streams together make the topography of this place.

Fauna : Sambar deer, Leopards, Striped Hyenas, Chital, Common langurs, Nilgai, Macaques, Jackals, Caracals, Jungle cats, Sloth bears, Hare, Indian Wild Boar, Black bucks, Chinkara, Common Palm Civets, Desert Cats, Coomon Yellow Bats, Palm Squirels, Indian Gerbilles, Indian Flying Foxes, Indian Mole Rats, Porcupines, Small Indian Mongoose, Ratels, Small Indian Civets and the Common mongoose can be easily spotted here besides Tigers. There are 12 varieties of reptiles recorded in this park out of which - Cobra, Marsh crocodiles, Python and Monitor Lizards can be seen commonly.

Avifauna : There is a wealth of water bodies in Ranthambore national park that makes it an ideal place for a number of bird species, both local and migratory. There are about 272 species of birds recorded in this sanctuary. During winters, the park becomes an ideal place to take delight in the activities of migratory birds. Indian horned owl, Bonelli's eagle, crested serpent, Partridge, Quail, Spoonbills, Parakeets, Kingfishers, Storks, Owls, Geese and Ducks are some of the species found here. However, the finest attraction of the park among birds remains the national bird of India – Peacock.

Other Places to Visit

Ranthambore Fort : This fort, which is situated amidst the park, gives its name to the park. Dating back to 10 century, this fort stands as an impressive example of medieval structures constructed for military purposes.

Sawai Madhopur Village : This village is popular for its well preserved historical monuments. The other places near the park are Karauli and Bundi, which have a number of historical temples.

How To Reach

By Air : Jaipur is the nearest airport from the Park connecting it to the major destinations.

By Rail : The nearest railway station is at Sawai Madhopur which is 15 Km from the park. For reaching Sawai Madhopu, several trains like Avadh Express, Golden Temple Express or the Delhi-Indore Intercity Express can be taken.

By Road : The Park falls on the route between Delhi and Mumbai. Taxis and buses from Jaipur are also available for reaching the park.
