Summers are hot and humid with temperature reaching up to 45 ÂșC. Monsoon surrounds the area from August month and lasts till October. Winter season in North India is the time when mercury falls down considerably. In winters days are pleasant and nights a bit cold.

October to March is the best time to visit Vaishali.

The City
Located 55 Km from the capital city Patna (Bihar), Vaishali is an important destination for Buddhists as well Jains. Vaishali is famous as the place where Lord Buddha moralize his last sermon before he died in Kushinagar around 483 BC. The serene town of Vaishali was named after King Visala who was mentioned in epic of Ramayana. Some even believe that Vaishali was the first state in the world to bring in practice a republic and democratic government. Vaishali is also the birthplace of Mahavira.

Attractions in the City

Ashoka Pillar: Ashoka Pillar was built by Mauryan Emperor Ashoka (250 BC) at Kolhua. It is 18.3 m high and is made of a highly polished single piece of red sandstone topped by a bell shaped capital. At top of the Ashoka Pillar a life-size figure of a lion is placed. Adjoining to the Ashoka Pillar is a small tank called as Ramkund.

Buddha Stupa - I : Buddha Stupa - I is the place where one-eighth of the sacred ashes of the Lord Buddha had been preserved in a stone casket. Presently, the exterior of this stupa is in a decaying condition and has a plain surface.

Budha Stupa - II : Buddha Stupa - II is located close to the Buddha Stupa - 1. Excavation of the site in 1958 led to the detection of another casket of Lord Buddha's ashes.

Bawan Pokhar Temple : Bowan Pokhar Temple is an aged temple built in the Pala period. Sited on the northern bank of Bawan Pokhar the temple enshrines the beautiful images of a number of Hindu gods.

Abhishek Pushkarn : Abhishek Pushkarn or Coronation tank contains the water that was believed to be sacred in the ancient days. Close to Abhishek Pushkarn, the Lichchavi Stupa is located. Abhishek Pushkarn is also the site where the stone caskets of the sacred ashes of Lord Buddha were enshrined.

Vishwa Shanti Stupa (World Peace Pagoda) : Built by Buddha Vihar society, the Vishwa Shanti Stupa lies on the south bank of the coronation tank.

Kundalpur : Kundalpur is Just 4 kms away from Vaishali. It is believed to be the birth place of Lord Mahavira. It is said that Lord Mahavir, was born here about 2,550 years ago. Lord Mahavira is said to have spent first 22 years of his life at Kundalpur.

Raja Vishal Ka Garh : Raja Vishal Ka Garh is supposed to be the ancient parliament house. There is a huge heap with a circumference of about one kilometer and the walls are nearly 2 meter high with 43 meters wide moat around them. It is said that more than seven thousand representatives of the federal assembly assemble at this place to legislate and discuss the day-to-day problems.
